Chapter 05 · Jupiter: SEO for online shops

Ecommerce SEO agency

We're an ecommerce SEO agency. We work on your shop's categories, product pages and buying guides, and on the technical side that decides whether Google reads them properly: filters, pagination, canonicals and speed.

A shop's pages have a shelf life. Every discontinued model takes its product page with it, along with the clicks it used to bring in. That's why we build organic traffic on pages that last, the categories and the guides, and manage product pages so you don't lose what already ranks. The basics are in the ecommerce SEO guide on our blog.

Mission profile

Which shops this service is for

For shops turning over €150,000 to €3M a year, with their own catalogue and products people search for by name, by type or by comparing models. We work mainly with Shopify, and also with WooCommerce.

It's not for you if you sell mainly on Amazon or other marketplaces, which we don't work with, if your shop runs on PrestaShop, which isn't our speciality, or if you need to sell more next month. If nobody is searching for your product yet, that demand is created with ads through our ecommerce marketing agency. And if you sell services, what you need is our SEO for service and B2B businesses. If your shop turns over less than €100,000 a year, start with a consultation with our CEO.

Instruments

What our ecommerce SEO agency does in your shop

Category architecture

We design the category tree around what your customers search for: each category answers a search with demand, with its own copy and links to its subcategories and guides. If two categories compete for the same search, they're merged; if a search with demand has no page, we create one.

Product pages, including when products are discontinued

We write original titles and descriptions for the product pages that sell, with product structured data (price, availability and ratings). When a product leaves the catalogue, what its URL brings in decides what happens next: if it has clicks or links, it's redirected to the replacement model or its category; if it's coming back, the page stays up with alternatives; if it brings in nothing, it's removed. We make the call with Search Console data.

Comparison buying guides

Pages for people who are already deciding: “best value X”, “X vs Y”. They compare models you sell, link to their product pages and are updated when the catalogue changes. The models change; the URL and its clicks stay.

Technical SEO for your shop

  • Filters and facets. Combinations with their own searches get indexed, such as “gaming laptops”; the rest are blocked or canonicalised so crawl budget isn't wasted on near-identical URLs.
  • Pagination. Pages 2, 3 and beyond carry normal links and aren't canonicalised to the first one, so Google can reach the whole catalogue.
  • Canonicals. Variants, products in several collections and parameters all point to a single version. In Shopify, every product also exists inside each of its collections, and you have to mark the main one.
  • Speed and Core Web Vitals. We review apps that load scripts on every page, heavy images and slow themes, starting with mobile.

Merchant Center and free listings

The Merchant Center feed also powers the free listings on Google Shopping. We check that titles, GTINs, price and availability match the product page, and we fix disapproved products.

Macys Digital case study: from 1,576 to 2,635 organic clicks

Macys Digital sells electronics in Playa de las Américas (Tenerife). Its product pages lost traffic as soon as a model was discontinued, so we put the effort into comparison guides for decision-stage searches (“best value X”, “X vs Y”). The data compares the same 30-day period (4 Aug–2 Sep) in 2025 and 2026:

Metric 2025 2026 Change
Organic clicks (4 Aug–2 Sep) 1,576 2,635 +67.2%
Organic clicks (August) 1,598 2,623 +64.1%
Impressions 251,245 293,122 +16.7%
Average mobile position 11.4 8.1 improved
Average desktop position 16.1 10.3 improved

Three guides that didn't exist a year earlier:

  • The Kobo, Kindle and PocketBook comparison: from 0 to 224 clicks.
  • The best value mobile phone guide: from 0 to 178 clicks.
  • The iPad Air vs iPad Pro comparison: from 0 to 148 clicks.

Together, the new guides brought in 787 clicks. Mobile accounted for 69% of clicks (1,820 of 2,635). Step by step in the Macys Digital case study.

How we work with your shop

  1. Free audit in 7 days. We cross-check Search Console against your catalogue and tell you what we'd tackle first, what it would cost and what's sensible to expect.
  2. First month. Technical audit, category map against searches, product pages with traffic at risk and a calendar of guides.
  3. Every week and every month. Every week we review indexing, errors and products leaving the catalogue. Every month we publish new categories and guides and decide the next step with you, based on organic orders in GA4.

Ecommerce SEO pricing

From €900/month

  • What moves the price: how many categories, product pages and guides we work on each month and the technical state of your shop (filters, pagination, canonicals and speed).
  • To get started: your products need to be searched for on Google, by name, by type or by comparing models.

We give you the final fee in the free audit, after cross-checking your catalogue against what people search for. Tool licences are separate. Prices exclude VAT, as we invoice from the Canary Islands; Canary Islands businesses add IGIC. No minimum term: you can leave with 30 days' notice. All our services are on our pricing page.

Mission control

Frequently asked questions about SEO for online shops

Do you need to touch my shop's theme?

Sometimes, to fix canonicals, structured data, pagination or speed. Those changes are prepared on a copy of the theme, you review them, and they go live outside weekends and peak season. Categories and guides are published without touching the template.

How long does SEO take to show results in a shop?

Expect the first movement from the third or fourth month, and consolidation between 6 and 12 months. Every new guide or category has to get indexed and win rankings from shops that have been there for years, so it's worth starting well ahead of your busy season.

Does SEO replace my Google Shopping campaigns?

They complement each other. The Merchant Center feed powers both your Shopping ads and the free listings, so fixing it improves both. Categories that rank bring in clicks you don't pay for. If you want us to run the ads too, that's added separately.

How do I know if SEO is bringing me sales?

By the orders, which is the first thing we show you. With GA4 ecommerce, the report breaks down organic orders and revenue by category and by guide. Clicks and rankings come afterwards, as context. If a guide brings in visits but doesn't sell, we change which product pages it links to.
